Who decides what good coffee?
Who decides what good coffee?
Usually we encourage you to focus only on yourself when choosing coffee, and rightly so. After all, it is the consumer who decides which coffee to buy and which to avoid.
⠀ But there are coffees and "juries" in the world - those who professionally evaluate coffee and even give it points. So who decides which coffee to consider quality and which not? ⠀
- International organizations
There are a number of organizations in the world dedicated exclusively to coffee. Among them is the Coffee Quality Institute. The institute has developed a 100-point scale, and regularly trains its experts to evaluate coffee on this scale. Such experts are also called Q-graders, ie "quality assessors".
- Scale
The scale itself has 100 points.
The distribution is as follows:
- Up to 80 points - coffee that has not been certified.
- 80 - 84 points - market coffee, certified by CQI.
- 85 - 100 points - especially high-quality coffee.
In fact, all coffee that scored 80 points or more is very high quality. It is also called "special", ie "special" or "extraordinary".
- What evaluates the grader
When tasting coffee, experts pay attention to a number of characteristics. First of all, the aroma, taste and aftertaste of the drink. In addition, evaluate the shades of taste, namely sweetness, acidity and overall balance. Finally, do not forget about the texture of the drink. Namely, the "body" of the drink, ie its density, homogeneity, etc.
But you don't have to be a professional grader to taste coffee. After all, free tasting from Coffice is available in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Odessa.
